New Pets

This blog is now changing to a blog about pets.
Just kidding!

Seriously though, check out what has been hanging around our house the last 2 days. They look kinda peacock like. Any one know what they are?

It was pretty cool initially to see them in the yard.
They can leave now along with their mess.
And, as you can see the patio is still a work in progress.
Hope to get to some of that this weekend.

Check out what washed up on the beach. Yikes!

How about a white crab?

Happy Monday!

This has been a busy week & only a few projects were finished. I did manage to spray paint & lacquer a tray but it wasn't that exciting so no pic. My patio furniture project is going to take a well planned block of time so haven't started that yet.  What is exciting is what I received in the mail this week:

This is from the contest I entered here.
Enjoy your weekend!

Update to the Bookcase

Have you heard of Tobi Farley yet? She is such a talented interior decorator & has an awesome blog!   I love what she did to her white book case:

Simple, inexpensive update....hmm.  Got me thinking...

Here is my before:
Before pic1:  No accent paint on the back of the book case

Before Pic2:  Wall paint added to back of the book case

I blogged about updating this tray that is on the family room coffee table awhile ago with one of my favorite green spray paint colors. I decided to get my paint from Lowe's using this green:

”white bookcase lime paint

Since I didn't need that much paint, I had the Lowe's paint guy match up the spray paint & I bought their sample size paint using 2 of them...total cost:  $6.00.
”white bookcase lime paint

The after:

”white bookcase lime paint

”white bookcase lime paint

”white bookcase lime paint

I'll be adding in more lime green accessories & taking a few better pics soon.
Have you added any lime green lately?

Increasing Blog Traffic

I recently discovered a new blog that has some awesome DIY tips and design ideas & the blog is called 'Addicted 2 Decorating'.   She also has lots of great instructions & tutorials on how to make many of her projects.  One of her blogging tips really caught my eye. Click here for a simple way to increase your blog traffic.

On a random note, someone said to me recently that blogging is 'self-promotion' and they would have nothing to do with it. Of course, I disagreed with this person as I feel blogging is a great way to share ideas and for bloggers & readers to learn from each other!  When I read someone's blog with great ideas, it inspires me!  I hope you feel the same.   Happy Tuesday!

DIY Fire Pit

I just received in the mail the latest Restoration Hardware catalog & am loving the contemporary fire pits they have in there:

I often see large chunky glass vases at Goodwill that might give you the same effect by adding the gel fuel & some rocks.  The glass would need to be tempered due to the heat. Click here to read an easy way to determine if your glass is tempered or not.

Or you might like more of the larger rectangular fire pits at Restoration Hardware:

Want to make your own?  You need to check out Karen at The Art of Doing Stuff!   She has an amazing tutorial on doing just that. Her blog is filled with lots of great DIY projects & she is really funny & whitty!

Dinner at Sequoia

When in Baltimore for our daughters graduation a few weeks back, we decided to celebrate with dinner at the Sequoia Restaurant in Georgetown. This historic restaurant is located directly on the Potomac River & has some of the best views in the city.  The inside of the restaurant is like you are on a ship with lots of rich mahogany flooring and some amazing lights.

Amazing fountain outside along the Potomac:

A view of the Kennedy Center & their outdoor dining:

If you are in the DC or Baltimore area, you should check out Sequoia
This is a great place for celebrations. :)

Happy Thursday!
