Add in the satin nickel hardware I found last week:

And hope to end up with something similar to this?!!

Loved it!!

The movie  "Water for Elephants" that is!!   I thought it was a great balance of mystery, excitement & romance...and Robert Pattinson?!    Here is the trailer:

Or, you could always order it from your local library.  When checking into that at our local library, I could order the book, the audio book or a 'book club kit'.  The kit includes:

15 books, 1 inventory sheet, 1 about the author sheet, 1 about the book sheet, 1 discussion questions sheet, 1 related reading sheet, 1 poster ;

How awesome is that?  Love our library.
Happy Wednesday!!

Vacation anyone?

It's about that time to think about & plan any summer vacations. Ok, so some of you are WAAAYY ahead & have had this planned for ages, but some of us are a little slow.  So my post today is about a website that has rental homes/condo's available & you rent them directly thru the owner.  The website is: vrbo.com.   And, did I mention that this site has listings worldwide?  We just recently used this website to look for a summer vacation that will be a reunion of sorts for my family which is very large.  We will have family coming in from Paris FR (yes, not Paris KY), Dallas, Cleveland & Cincinnati.  Where are we going? To visit family in Winnetka, IL.  Here's the home we are thinking of renting:

The nice thing about vrbo is that each listing has several photos of the inside of the unit as well as nearby attractions, shopping, etc. and usually an interactive (up to date) calendar so you can see if it is available.
Check it out if you are looking to get away this summer!

Cabinetry Hardware

Have you been noticing the ring pulls on all the furniture lately? For example, I love them on this piece:

Or all the fun Ikea Rast chests that have been customized:

My Dining Room

So, I checked our local Home Depot & Lowe's & couldn't find what I wanted.
I went online & found these in satin nickel.   Be sure to check here for current coupon offers.

I bought them for a piece of furniture I am going to update really soon as well I am using them to dress up our a bathroom vanity:

Love the little details.
Happy Thursday!

Another table change-up

Ah, back from a weekend volleyball qualifier trip.  We went back to Baltimore & stayed at the same place I blogged about here & had a great time again this year.

If you read this blog, you know I like to change up the tables around our house.  This adorable table has been with us for a long time but never is really noticed much. I decided it needed an update of paint &  fabric I had around the house.  Here are the before & after pics:

The fabric I used is Waverly Cross Section Charcoal & can be bought for a great price here. I have used it around my house in another project on a bathroom lampshade

Cost: $0.....Smile!
Happy Tuesday!

Striped Painted Curtains

I was inspired by the many bloggers who have used striped curtains in their home decor.  Such DIYers as High Heeled who painted her stripes:

Or the fun living room curtains over at The Nester:

So, when working on our master bedroom, I decided to use these Ikea panels & paint my stripes using the same latex paint, Valspar Granite Dust, as I used on the walls:

It took 3 coats of paint to get the look I wanted and to use the small mini roller instead of a brush. I also decided I didn't like the tabs so I bought some black curtains clips from Lowe's & used those instead:

I still have 1 more panel to paint along with some other furniture painting/staining in the room that needs to be done.  Happy Thursday!

Facial Workout?

Ok, this is kind of funny, but does it make sense?  We all think about working out our bodies, why not work out the muscles in your face? (Are you laughing yet?). We have over 50 muscles in our face that as we age, still need to be 'worked out'.  Check out Jack Lalanne's (RIP: 1/23/11) video version below which is 1 of 30 in total.  Do you agree with Jack?

Dressing Up my Lamp Shade

I love greek key!  And I love to make small, quick little changes around our house. So, I decided an update was needed to this lamp that was updated awhile ago.  I glued the fabric trim to the edge of the lamp shade & let it dry for about an hour:

And, imagine where I found this greek key trim?!  At Super Walmart!  Our local store actually has a decent fabric department with a lot of fabric options and trim available.  Who would have thought?  Of course, I needed more & there wasn't any more at the store. Online I went & found it here.  And, you can use this coupon code for a discount: SIMPSAVE20.  Other options as well such as this black version which is a little narrower & sold by the yard & not the spool:

Happy Tuesday!

DIY Sunburst Mirror

Better late than never, right? I know bloggers have been making these forever so I figured it was time for me.  Some folks hate them & some love them. But when you make it yourself for almost nothing, there's nothing to lose.  I found lots of tutorials & here is a link to several pics of other bloggers DIY mirrors.  I loved this version but couldn't find the mirror at Target:

Here's what I used:

Meijers:  1 pkg wooden bamboo skewers....$1.99
                                                               10" mirror.....$4.99
                                                 Hobby Lobby: Disc Hanger....$2.99
                                                 Lowe's: Rustoleum Gold spray paint
Glue gun, glue sticks, charger plate

I drew lines on the back of my charger plate so that I would have something to help me keep the sticks straight.  Glue the sticks & be generous with the glue.  I let mine sit overnight.

Wait impatiently  for a warm day to be able to spray paint:

Glue the mirror to the front. I used some Gorilla Glue that I had on hand.  I also attached the yellow Disc Hanger to the back.   Up it goes!

And I thought I'd post a cartoon from Bri @ Me, You & a Wiener Dog regarding the exact thing my husband is concerned about with our new Sunburst Mirror. If you haven't checked out her other hilarious cartoons or her blog for great DIY ideas, you need to see it.  She is really talented & funny!

Enjoy your weekend!
