Finished Great Room

I love paint. It's quick, easy and we can do it ourselves.  That said, I was the cut-in person & my husband was the roller. And, let me just say that even though the walls don't look that high, they are high & I have decided I do not like heights.   Here is a before shot of the room with all of it's redness:

I had the color mixed at Lowe's and used a piece of the fabric to get the color match.  Here is it during:

And after:

I found the mirrors on the mantle at Homegoods. I also found the chunky blue vase there too!
Hmm, what can I paint next?

New at Target

Target has a new line of  items in their Home Decor that are blue & white which caught my eye since I have been going with a blue theme in our great room.  I love the new color and their prices are pretty good.  Here are just a few of the items:

I bought the rug and really like it, just not sure it's big enough for the space.

The painting is all finished & I should have pics tomorrow. Stay tuned!

Updated Cornice Board

We are making progress in our great room.  The cornice board is recovered & back up. (Insert Yah!).  Here are a few pics:

My husband is really good about helping out, especially if it means a new tool.  He is a firm believer that any project is easy to tackle as long as you have the right tool.  On this project, it meant we needed a new pneumatic stapler which we bought at Harbor Freight and this tool worked great:

The original cornice had scallops at the bottom which we decided to glue these small wood pieces in so the edge was  straight. This made it easier to pull the striped fabric:

Here is the before:

And cornice up:

I have the paint & hope to get to it this weekend.  On a random note, the kids are off school today & here is the scene in our backyard. This is just the start since we are supposed to get blasted this afternoon with a snowstorm....not sure about you, but I am over the snow!

Happy Thursday!

Bamboo Mirror

One of my favorite daily blogs to check out is Emily A. Clark & today I was happy to see that she recently scored an awesome bamboo mirror at a flea market:

Guess I loved her's so much since I have a similar one in my entry:

She really has a beautiful blog, so you might want to check it out.
Happy Tuesday!

Latest Project

Our latest project is an update in our great room that I've been wanting to do for some time now.  I am tired of the red & ready to change it.  I will be using this rug:

This Nautica fabric from Joann's will be going on the cornice which is now down & laying across the dining room table:

Sewing the new panel with this vintage Singer classic 401:

Picking the paint. We are going with the inky blue color but this has been a real nice look for the last few days:

I have pillows in this fabric:

I am planning to make some pillows in this fabric:

And Fabrics.com blue coral:

Wishing you all a fun filled weekend!

Coconut Oil?

I have posted here before about my thoughts on the importance of fish oil, and now would like to add to that list organic coconut oil.  What you say? Isn't that the worst oil we can ingest?  After lots of research on it, I am turning into a coconut advocate to be used in a healthier lifestyle.  Here is a short list of coconut oil benefits:

- assists in weight loss (that in itself is huge)
-prevents premature aging
-moisturizes skin & hair
-aides in digestion

I use it now in the AM for cooking my egg/egg whites instead of Pam & it is delicious.  Someone told me that they have been using it & have only gained weight.  From what I've read, you also have to remember that it does have calories so take that into consideration in terms of your total daily caloric intake.  I am no nutritionist but just thought you might be interested & want to do some research on this.  So far for me, it seems to make me feel fuller in the morning & the rest of the day which has made me eat less through out the day.  This is the coconut oil I found at our local Jungle Jim's which is an experience in itself:

Also, here is a short youtube video on the benefits of coconut oil:

How about you? Do you use coconut oil?
