Mantle update!

Back a few weeks now, I updated my mantle to give it a lighter feel. Here are some pics:

Started here:

Painted the backs of the bookcases & added some hurricanes w/lemons and limes:

Changed out the art:

I bought the canvas at Ikea & like how it brightened up the space. The candles weren't white enough so I sprayed them with some high gloss white spray paint. The vase used to be pink but you know what happened to that too.   Just a quick update that makes me smile.

Outdoor Project

We have been debating this project all summer.  And, finally decided to start on it this past weekend when it was 100 degrees and humid. Great.....my idea is to put down stamped concrete and the husband wants to re-use the pavers that have been down for 15 years, which will need to be cleaned before they go back down. After a drought the year before and with me power-washing the patio last summer, the ground really settled and alot of the pavers were uneven.

I did not plant any flowers in these pots because we were going to start alot earlier than now....but, the flowers (and weeds) in the left pot just came up and I didn't even plant them....amazing!

Man, this is fun!

And, like so many other projects, one thing leads to another, like fixing more sunken concrete!

Stay tuned!

My version of the 'Bar Cart'

Everyone is loving the bar cart in the blog world & I totally agree.  I have a spot in my dining room that would be perfect to put out a stocked bar cart!  Here are some of my favorites:

I also love this look with more height to it to put bar accessories on:

Or this etagere would work really nice:

(Click on the link for a better picture)

I also liked how this popular blogger stocked her painted Ikea 'bar shelf':

So I decided to 'shop my house' & I came up with this metal table I have been using in the basement near the pool table. My husband made this table several years ago as well as a  few others. It has a 16x16 piece of limestone in it which look a lot better with a piece of carrara marble but for now, I am loving it!

Have you "shopped your own house" lately?

White Lacquer Coffee Table

I posted about my inspiration for this project here, and am really happy with how it turned out. This is a space in our finished basement that gets used alot by all the kids. We have had this table (and a matching side table) for awhile:

It is that bleached maple color:

I've always covered the table with this glass to protect it. But lately have just been thinking it has been looking tired:

1st coat. I used the same Behr primer/paint in All-White that I used on painting all the trim upstairs:

I am really happy with the contrast of the white and the different beige shades in the stone fireplace and the newly painted coffee table.

Total Cost: $0

Do you love Panera Shortbread Cookies?

If I am going to eat a cookie, it's going to be the Panera Shortbread cookie or one just like it. So here's the easiest best recipe to make the same cookie. And, like most of my recipes, it only has 3 ingredients.  Love easy!

Ingredients:
1 white box cake

Yes, 4 sticks of butter!

2-1/2 cups flour

And that's all you mix together.

Roll into balls & place on greased cookie sheet. We press a thumb print in the middle. Bake at 350 for
10-12 minutes:

Some in the family like the blackberry preserves, some not so much!

Beware: These are RICH....too many = belly ache

Wishing you all a Happy Friday & enjoy the weekend!!

Quick Spray Paint Project!

I have been intrigued lately with all the fun owls used in home decor:

So, I had to show you my owl before & after.  We have had these vintage metal owls forever. They were given to my husband from his Uncle many years ago & we've hung them outside off & on over the years. Here is one of the original owls still hanging up in our barn:

And here is the after of one I found in my garage that met a can of high gloss white:

And around the back, it has a small space for a votive:

I think it's adorable!  And, it's safe to say that my family thinks I am obsessed with white spray paint.
I think they might just be right!
