Friday Night Out!

So, you've got a big night out planned?? It is Friday after all. What to wear is the question. This is what I'd love to wear out tonight.........wishing you all an awesome weekend!

More Goodwill finds-Part 2!

A few more Goodwill finds! There are several stores around town, some better than others. You just never know what you are going to find! Here are some more favorites. Love my new zebra plates!

This frame was shiny yellow brass. More of my black spray paint & it takes on a more contemporary look instead of old & tired!!

I found 2 of these candles shown above at my favorite Goodwill. (sorry I already have burned them some so you don't see their unique shape). When I got home from GW, I googled the name on the bottom, 'Barrick Design'. Their website is here & these candles are 3 for $68.50. Score!!

And, last but not least, my copper sailboat. I pretty much love anything metal! Any deals in your area?

Do online surveys work?

I do online surveys for White Castle and it works! I am paid to fill out their surveys & that works for me since I LOVE their coffee & its' a lot cheaper than Starbucks! Anyone else out there successful with online surveys?

Saving $$ on working out!

How many folks out there have a gym membership they never ever use? What a waste of money. Why not use your cable? Having used before the Firm workouts, Cathe workouts, group classes with a trainer, I have recently found Gilad on FitTV. If you have access to FitTV, you have access to Gilad. He is on several times a day and believe me, you will be sore.

I think they are the best use of 30 minutes I've found on FitTV. I usually watch the 6:30am segment but there is a segment that starts at 6:00am but that is several years old and a tad dated. If you get a chance though, give it a shot! Also, if you want to check out his DVD's before buying them, I rented this set from the library. After watching, I decided that the FitTV programs are a better fit for me than watching his DVD's. Here is a link if you want to check it out: http://fittv.discovery.com/fansites/gilad/gilad.html

Another great resource for working out & nutrition is bodybuilding.com. Lots of info there!

Modge Podge tables!

Have you ever used modge podge before? This stuff is great and you can find it at Walmart, Meijer or any of the craft stores. It looks alot like Elmer glue going on but dries clear.

I've had these end tables for several years and after covering them with fabric to warm up the space, I decided to change them up a bit. I like the metal base of the table but the glass was just so boring.

After removing the glass tops off from the base (they are heavy) & flipping them over, I layed them down on our kitchen island (sorry I don't have any in progress pics). After buying some nice napkins from Hobby Lobby during the 50% off sale, I decided to use them as part of my table top change. These napkins are 3-ply so it is important to get the 2 layers off & only use the top decorative layer.

After applying a layer of modge podge, I then placed the napkins (one a time) on the glass and applied more modge podge on top. I really am not that crafty of a person & don't really enjoy 'crafts' so to speak. I also thought, hmm, if I mess this up, I can always put new fabric over the table to cover it up like before. That said, this is a somewhat tedious process but I'm happy with the result.

I did the same thing with some paper I bought at Hobby Lobby & applied to some tables I have in our office reception area.

Do you have any boring glass tops that need a change-up?

Easy Homemade Goetta

Never heard of goetta? Its' a german Cincinnati thing. Here's a little history if your interested. My mother-in-law (MIL) gave this to me when we were first married & I've made it every winter. Its' not really a summer dish but a hearty winter breakfast dish. And did I mention easy? Love easy.

1 – lb. Of ground chuck
1 – lb. Of ground pork
1 – envelope French Onion soup mix
8 – cups cold water
2 & 1/2 – cups pinhead oatmeal

Put the 8 cups water in a deep pan. Place meat in water & boil. Put in the soup mix & pinhead oatmeal. Bake in oven for 3 hrs. First 1.5 hrs. @ 250 degrees, stirring every 30 mins., with a lid on the pan. Turn off oven. Leave in oven & stir every 30 minutes for another 1.5 hrs. Pour the goetta in loaf pans & refrigerate. After cooled, cut into slices & individually wrap & put in freezer. Your house smells awesome while this is cooking!

New Metal Railings!

When we finished our basement, I just couldn't see using the oak banisters that were installed originally leading down to the old dungeon. Now that we finished the basement, we needed a statement. This isn't our actual railing but you get the idea from this pic.

The hubs is pretty handy & always usually willing to carry out one of my 'creative' concepts. I found this picture in my 'The New Family Home' book and used it as my inspiration. See the black railings in the left side of the pic?

He has a metal bender out in his shop & bent these up for me. Put on a coat of black paint & up they go. I am really happy with how they turned out! metal railing

Wondering though about the carpet that is getting pretty worn. I would like to pull it up & paint the risers & maybe put a carpet runner down the steps. Anyone (besides one of my favorite bloggers Thrifty Decor Chick...can't wait for her stair reveal!) else done this?

Favorite Goodwill finds!

I have to say that with the current ecomonic recession we are in, I have discovered Goodwill or GW as I like to refer to it. I am amazed at the awesome finds that are there, mostly in the housewares. I do still check TJMaxx, Homegoods, & Walmart, but sometimes find more unique & cheaper items at GW.

I don't think I've spent over $4 per item on anything. They have great 50% off days and if you are on their email distribution list, you get monthly calendar updates which tell you whats on sale that day. Here are a few of my favorites: This basket was at Goodwill probably because the handle broke. Solution: go outside & find your favorite stick & spray paint it black! Done.

And last but not least, one of my favorite finds of all which gets used often with Mr. Rodney Strong. Have a great weekend!

If you are new to blogging like me, you are always looking for helpful tips & tricks. There are several bloggers out there who have done this already, like Rhoda as well as Susan at Naps on the Porch. I just wanted to add in Peter who has a great blog about tips & tricks. He also has a good search tool as well. Thanks for the help!

Barbeque anyone?

Want to come over for a grill out and some brews? Uh, maybe in a few months. I'd rather be looking at this out my window! Ahh, patience.
